Terms
Last updated 8 September 2026 · applies to the taxy macOS app and taxytax.nl
Plain words on purpose. If a sentence here needs a lawyer to understand it, it is
written wrong and we want to hear about it.
These terms are between you and the maker of taxy, based in the Netherlands.
What taxy is
taxy computes and informs. It never advises. It reads your receipts, keeps
your books, and works out the numbers your quarterly BTW return needs.
taxy is not a tax advisor. taxy applies only the sealed rules listed for your tax year. It does not make unsupported amounts 'safe' by calling them estimates.
It is not an accountant either, and not a substitute for one.
taxy does not file anything for you. There is no connection to the
Belastingdienst. You type the five numbers into the portal yourself.
The full honest list — what taxy can and cannot do
The complete CAN / CANNOT list lives in the app, in the FAQ, on
the front page, and as a one-page PDF you can hand to your
accountant. It is one list from one source, so all four always say the same thing.
The boundaries that matter most here:
- taxy cannot give tax advice.
- taxy cannot file for you.
- taxy cannot do your full income tax return — it computes your business
profit and the three main deductions, not your heffingskortingen, box 2, box 3, or
your final tax bill. Those are for your accountant or the portal.
- taxy cannot decide tricky deduction edge cases. It flags them for a
human instead of guessing.
- taxy cannot replace an accountant's judgment.
Nothing in taxy, on this site, or in any document it generates is legal, tax or
financial advice.
Who is responsible for what
You file, so you are responsible. You check every extracted receipt and every
number before you rely on it. You submit your own return, and its accuracy is yours.
We are responsible for taxy doing what this page and the CAN/CANNOT list say it does.
You also need the right to process whatever you put into taxy — your own receipts
and invoices, not someone else's documents.
What it costs
- Always free: your ledger, the maths, exports, backups. taxy never holds
your books hostage. If you stop paying, every number you already have keeps working,
offline, forever.
- taxy Pro — € 120 a year. Receipt reading, the law
re-pinned every year, the audit pack, the auditfile for your accountant.
- Founding friends: free. Free until we say otherwise — and you will hear it
from us first, in person, not as a surprise on a card statement.
- Refunds: 14 days, no questions. If you pay for Pro and change your mind
within 14 days, you get the money back — whether you buy as a person or as a
business. Nothing is on sale yet; this line will be revisited when it is.
What happens if a subscription lapses
taxy sells a service — reading receipts — never custody of your books. When a
subscription ends, receipt reading stops. Your ledger, every calculation, every
export, every past filing and every prior year keep working exactly as before, on
your own Mac, with no connection to us.
Your data
There is no taxy account and your bookkeeping lives on your own Mac. That means
backups are yours to make (Settings → Backup) and the security of your machine is
yours to keep. We cannot recover data we never had. The full story is on the
privacy page.
Beta
taxy is in beta. Features, pricing and availability can change, and the service can
be modified, limited or discontinued. We will give notice when we reasonably can; being
in beta means we cannot promise it every time.
No warranty, and what we are liable for
taxy is provided as it is, without warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular
purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To the fullest extent Dutch law allows, we are
not liable for loss arising from your use of taxy — including an incorrect filing, a
missed deadline, or reliance on a number taxy calculated.
The limits on that limit
Dutch law does not let anyone exclude everything, and we are not trying to. Nothing
above limits our liability for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence
(opzet of bewuste roekeloosheid), for death or personal injury, or any other liability
that cannot be excluded by law. If you are a consumer, your mandatory rights under
Dutch consumer law apply in full and nothing here reduces them.
Changes to these terms
These terms will change as taxy grows. The current version always lives on this page
with its date at the top. If a change materially affects what you are paying for, we
will tell you before it takes effect, not after.
Governing law
Dutch law applies. If we ever end up in front of a judge, it is a Dutch court —
and if you are a consumer, that does not take away your right to bring a case where
the law says you may.
